On our recent Cigar trip to Florida, we spent some time at Historic Calle Ocho. One of our stops was the El Titan de Bronze Cigar store. In the store there were two cigar rollers. El Titan De Bronze was started in 1995, and they pride themselves on quality over quantity. They produce a cigar with very high care and attention to detail. From what I have learned “They only employ the best to hand-roll their cigars, and most have experience at some of the top factories in the world such as Partagas and Romeo y Julieta.”
I purchased a few, including the El Titan De Bronze Gran Reserve Gran Habano Maduro 1925, 5.5×60. This cigar was introduced in 2007. The cost of the cigar was $8.50. It has a Brazilian Maduro wrapper, an Ecuadorian binder and a Nicaraguan Santo Domingo (Cuban seed) filler.
The appearance of the cigar was nothing to write home about. There were lots of veins in the cigar, and a couple of flaws in the wrapper. The pre light draw on this was nice, and revealed a bit of a spicy taste. The wrapper was very dry. I am guessing the wrapper was dry because of the air conditioning in the store. It had a woodsy aroma to the cigar pre light. I think had I aged it, the dryness may have improved. Upon lighting the stick, the draw remained nice, and the mild spice continued. From time to time I picked up a bit of a chocolate taste, or a sweetness. However, there was a dry, or maybe airy taste to the cigar. I would rate this a medium to full-bodied cigar. More of a medium than full though.
Based on the appearance of the cigar I did not have the highest hopes, but was impressed by the taste of the cigar, and how it smoked. It maintained a good draw throughout, held a nice tight, light grey ash, and had some nice flavors present. It burned somewhat quick, and that might be due to the dryness of the cigar from the store. Again, had I aged this in my humidor, it may have improved. Overall, I enjoyed this cigar, and you don’t find to many cigars made by Cubans, in Little Havana, If you can find one of these, I would recommend it.
